reflections
The entire teaching practicum was a professional development opportunity for me as a pre-service teacher. I actively sought advice from all of my colleagues, going beyond just my supervising teachers to ensure a diversity and richness of professional advice and development opportunities. I observed my colleagues and their classrooms to gain understandings of which practices I will incorporate into my own teaching. I attended learning area meetings and whole-staff meetings My colleagues advised me of professional development events that they have attended and the various providers of such events.

Secondary school Indonesian language students attended an excursion to an Indonesian concert.
I joined this excursion and professionally developed my understanding of planning and implementation of school excursions and to further develop my Indonesian language skills and engage with fellow Indonesian language teacher colleagues.
There were other Indonesian community events conducted throughout the term in Perth that I would like to have attended. In the future, I will ensure I attend multiple professional development opportunities that are ideally offered outside of school hours.

The following websites contain both resources, publications and details of professional development events specific to their respective education fields in Humanities and Social Sciences, Indonesian language and languages. Bar one, these associations are based in Western Australia. Depending on my teaching area field of employment, I will join the relevant associations and engage in their professional development programs, utilise their resources, and extend my network of colleagues from which to seek advice and examples of best practice.

I attended learning area meetings and whole-staff meetings. I participated in three large-scale school events that were attended by parents and the majority of teaching staff at the school. I attended parent-teacher interviews on the first day of my practicum. I sought advice on how the school engages with the local community.

At a large-scale school event I sought advice from a teaching colleague on how the school engages with the community. The colleague advised me of a program where Year 10 students assist various groups in the local community on a weekly basis and introduced me to the program coordinator. The coordinator described the students attending either: the local The Salvation Army to assist in various duties at their centre; a nearby primary school with underprivileged students to assist those students' reading skills; or the local library to assist technologically challenged community members use digital applications.
I accompanied students on the outing to provide digital assistance at the local library. I observed student and community member interactions and interviewed students and community members about their experiences at the venue.
The outcome was a an understanding of the value of incorporating community activities into student learning for both students and the community. I will definitely try to incorporate similar activities in the future.

I will engage with my colleagues professionally and will participate in formal and informal staff meetings to develop my relationships with my colleagues.
As a teacher, I will introduce myself to the parents of all students via email at the beginning of each year so they have my contact details and a positive first contact with their child's teacher. I will call parents with both concerns and success stories when necessary. I will participate in both formal and informal events at the school where parents and teachers are in attendance e.g. parent teacher interviews, sports days, theatre productions etc.
I will contribute to school and community partnerships by actively participating in the local community, implementing learning for students relevant to their local community, inviting community members to contribute to school programs and events and contributing to programs that encourage students to participate in and assist their local community.
